🎉 Big News:
The Adaptive K9 is Starting a Dog Sport Club!
Hey everyone!
I’m super excited to finally share something I’ve been dreaming about and working on behind the scenes — a casual dog sport club for my clients and other local dog folks in and around the Llano community, who’ve been wanting a more supportive, beginner-friendly way to test out and get into a variety of dog sports.
Dog sports are such a wonderful way to provide physical and mental enrichment for our dogs - in a way that truly fulfills THEIR needs! For some dogs, certain activities aren’t fulfilling at all and cause frustration - leading to an unfulfilled dog who may display behavior issues - like a Lab never being able to swim or retrieve.. getting into every puddle possible, and bringing you things you didn’t want them getting into, or a border collie, Aussie or shepherd not able to herd and pushing you and your kids around the house!
Theres a dog sport that suits each breeds distinctive needs and my goal is for this club to be a soft and fun introduction to a wide variety of them! From Agility, Rally, Obedience, FastCat, Barn Hunt, Scentwork, Man trailing, Frisbee and more!
I’ve had so many conversations with clients who are interested in agility, scent work and more, but feel overwhelmed or unsure of where to start. That’s exactly why I’m starting this club — to create a welcoming space where people can learn, train, and have fun with their dogs, without the pressure or gatekeeping that can sometimes come with traditional clubs. Even if it’s a sport I’ve never personally done before - lets learn TOGETHER!
What the Club Will Offer (To Start!):
A barebones agility setup (I’m literally building the equipment myself right now! If you have anything you’d like to donate [wood, hardware, chains, jumps etc] - you’d be greatly appreciated!)
Help with training and filming for AKC virtual titles (Rally, Obedience, Home Manners, Scent Word, Agility [when course is built] etc.)
Fun runs, mock trials, and low-key competitions for anyone who just wants to try it out or enjoy the sport without chasing titles
A supportive community that’s open to all breeds, all experience levels, and all goals
We’re not officially affiliated with the AKC yet, but that’s in the works once we meet the requirements. Right now, the focus is on getting people (and their dogs!) comfortable and excited about the world of dog sports.
Facility Plans & Funding
I’m also working toward building a community training space that will primarily support The Adaptive K9’s business clients, but it will also be available for club members to use — and for others to rent out to help cover costs. Club dues and fundraising will go towards this, as well as equipment, upkeep, and eventually building out a full regulation agility course with jumps, tunnels, ramps, and weave poles.
This is all starting pretty grassroots — just me, a few helpful clients, some tools, and a lot of passion — but I’m hopeful it’ll grow into something really special for everyone, both my clients and the local dog community in Llano!
Interested in Joining or Helping Out?
If you:
Want to join the club
Want to help build stuff (I won’t say no to an extra set of hands or material donations!)
Or just want to stay in the loop
Send me a message on Facebook, email me at: theadaptivek9@gmail.com — or talk to me next time you’re at a session. I’ll also have a sign-up form ready soon for updates and early membership info.
Thanks for being part of this journey with me — can’t wait to see what we build together (literally and figuratively).
