Frequently asked questions.

Where does training take place?

Training takes place in your home, or other environments depending on your dogs training needs! I do NOT have my own facility (yet).

How long does training take?

That depends on 3 main factors:
1. My ability to teach you/your ability to learn.
2. Your consistent effort in-between sessions.
3. Your dog!

What kind of training methods do you use?

A variety, it all depends on your dog, your abilities and what you’re trying to achieve! Depending on who you ask, I’m labelled as a “Balanced Trainer” or a “LIMA trainer”. Ultimately, my methods are best explained using the LIMA pyramid as an example. (Least Invasive, Minimally Aversive.) I’m not against the use of tools such as ecollars, prongs etc when they are beneficial to the dog and used correctly!

When can I stop rewarding my dog?

When you’re willing to work without being paid.
Most hear “reward” and instantly think “Treats!” and it’s the main reason people ask when they can stop “rewarding” their dog. The important takeaway here is that I prefer to build reward systems that are valuable to the dog, and while we can fade the use of treats, we still want to be rewarding our dogs in some manner when they do something good! Example, My dog is highly food motivated and toy motivated, so I use both treats and toys for certain training exercises. Don’t get me started on environmental rewards and self-rewarding behavior - that’s for our next session ;)
